Inspiration

100 seconds with Dr Suranjan Bhattacharji

Dr Suranjan Bhattacharji is the inspiration for The Ganga Foundation. His vision underpins everything that we do.

Dr Suranjan is a Gandhian, the doyen of rehabilitation in India, and a former Director of Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore. He enabled the Rehabilitation Institute at Vellore become a centre of excellence, restoring lives of persons with disability.

In 1990, Dr Suranjan told Elango Thambiah and Vaidyanathan Singararaman (Vaidy, who was undergoing rehabilitation after his spinal cord injury):

“As IIM Alumni, you guys will, in due course, be in positions of influence. You must do your bit to improve the quality of life for persons with disability in India”.

The Ganga Foundation is inspired by this vision of Dr Suranjan Bhattacharji.

Dr Suranjan was instrumental in getting Vaidy back into Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore after re-admission was refused.

MUST READ: The visionary letter written by Dr Suranjan Bhattacharji to formalise his efforts to get Vaidy back into IIM, Bangalore now adorns the Office of Inclusion at IIM, Bangalore. Today IIM Bangalore offers world-class facilities for students with disability, and best in class in India.

The Ganga Foundation will always be led by vision, principles and guidance of Dr Suranjan Bhattacharji.
