Empowering Persons with Spinal Cord Injury

The Ganga Foundation is an organization focused on enhancing the Quality of Life of persons with spinal cord injury in India. Since September 2009, our work has touched the lives of 5,000-plus persons with spinal cord injury across India.

The genesis of The Ganga Foundation is the spinal cord injury in 1990 sustained by S Vaidyanathan, Co-Founder, while a student at Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore.

Collaboration is our key strategy, as together we can do more to solve the massive unmet needs of persons with spinal cord injury in India.

Experience sharing, peer trainers, rehabilitation support, enabling of livelihood, access to quality mobility devices, networking, and initiatives at community inclusion via sports, culture and design underpin our grass root work.

Mission

By 2030, we aspire to accomplish this vision by focusing on:

Rehabilitation &Training

  • Every state in India must have a low-cost, affordable training center run by peers with good training.
  • A quality rehab centre in every region of the country on our own or in tandem with partners.
  • Support establishment of therapy clinics in each state by high quality therapists to serve persons with disability.

Support Systems

  • Every person with Spinal Cord Injury in India must have The Right Wheelchair. We aspire to provide 10% of those needs, and push for emulation.
  • Facilitate peer guidance to every person with Spinal Cord Injury from an early stage. Peers often have greater influence than doctors and therapists.
  • Empower The Spinal Foundation to make available the best possible resources – health guidance materials, Touch Rehab, and an online medical store .

Empowerment

  • Vocational training for person with Spinal Cord Injury, livelihood via small businesses, enable training and nurture employment opportunities.
  • Support for education of children with Spinal Cord Injury, a group that is increasing in size by the day due to road accidents.
  • Promoting sporting excellence by targeting 10 new persons for every Paralympics from 2024 onwards with a modest beginning in 2020.
  • Eradicate bedsores that halts lifethrough support for treatment, practice of best skin care practices, and make peers as brand ambassadors.
  • Back students with disability in the MBA program from economically challenged backgrounds at IIM Bangalore to serve as a reference point.

Barrier-Free Society

  • Focus on enhancing injury prevention, accessibility and inclusive education, employment, culture, sports and recreation.
